Saving the Last Rhinos: The Life of a Frontline Conservationist (with Grant Fowlds)
5.0 out of 5 stars
Brilliant book. Came across this book after reading Anthony Lawrence’s collection, and like those, it is a real eye opener to life in the bush. Would recommend this book to anyone.

This is one
of the best books I have ever read on so many levels. A great bush story – you
feel like you are at a campfire on an African reserve, listening to wonderful
stories. Author Lawrence Anthony is an amazing person; his story is inspiring.
And the real stars of the show are the elephants!! We could all learn a lot
from their behavior.
I seldom read books again. Indeed, only 3 have merited a re-read, as I always
feel like there are “too many great books, too little time” to spend rereading.
This is my third go-round on The Elephant Whisperer, however. I read it first
when I was traveling through South Africa – the descriptions in the book are
dead on. Since, I have recommended it to two book clubs, hence the retreads.
Each time I am even more impressed – rather than “skipping” the parts I already
know, I find I reread parts just because . . .
If you like books that make you think, help you remember what life should be
like . . . If you love elephants the way I do . . . If you like to laugh, and
cry, and become completely absorbed in a great read . . . this book is for you!

Showing one person can change the world – really. It was good to read this after reading the Elephant Whisperer by the same author – then I had an idea of who Lawrence Anthony was as he went into Iraq to Baghdad Zoo. Far out! These two books Elephant Whisperer and Babylon’s Ark should be recommended reading for all. Brilliant books!! Deeply moving. Made me think about how I move in this world, too – and what can I do to nourish and save the planet. Lawrence Anthony has proved that regular people can save and nourish our animals and environment by listening carefully and then getting out there and doing it. Inspirational – one of those books that stays with you. Have I said enough? Read it! Read it to your older children Does anyone do that anymore? Talk about it with them.

A sequel to, The Elephant Whisperer, but it is more than a sequel. Lawrence Arnold gets into the middle of militant, terrorist negotiations in the Congo, during his effort to save the Northern White Rhino. It is wonderful to get to know this man with so much heart and conviction for conservation of animals! A must read!
